I've been thinking a lot about my mom's health struggles today. For those of you who don't know, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer (that had already spread all over) . There is no cure for her kind of cancer and the doctor was not optimistic, saying, "don't make plans for Christmas." That was almost 2 years ago. Her cancer will never go away, but it's dormant. She's thriving, she looks great, she has a fantastic wig.

My Grandpa (my dad's dad) woke up in the middle of the night , and drove to tell her that God said it was going to be okay. This was right after her diagnosis. You have to know my grandpa, his faith is very "charismatic" and emotional. He has a special dialog with the Lord that I envy. And if he says God came and told him everything was going to be alright, than we believe him. And it was.

I say that because we believe that her healing was a miracle. Her own doctor says her healing was a miracle. And now I am struggling with the grief I feel for another family that I never met. Their prayers were answered in a different way this weekend. What the Powell family has gone through could happen to any of us, and they have been such an example of faith to so very many.

Tonight I pray for God's love and comfort for the family of Ethan Powell.

Hug your babies. . . pray over them...

I've been thinking about the Powells all day, too. It's strange how the love you have for your own kids can enable you to hurt alongside people you don't even know. God has truly been glorified by their faith through all of their struggles, even though the (temporary) outcome wasn't what any of us hoped for.

{sigh} Sometimes I am just really ready for Jesus to come back so no more families have to lose a mom or a baby or a spouse....

Thanks for sharing this post. That's an amazing story about your mom. And it's amazing how little Ethan has touched so many lives on this earth for such a short period of time.

Hey, I wanted to ask you about something. Can you e-mail me at theschwiet1s@yahoo.com? Thanks!

Dearest Danna,

I love reading your blog every day! It makes me feel like I am sharing in your life, even when I don't get to see you all. The pictures are wonderful. I am so thankful for my precious daughter, son-in-law and sweet baby girls.

Love, Mom

The Powells have been on my mind all day. I can't imagine their grief, but their faith has been amazing.

I didn't know about your Mom. My mom went through a tough breast cancer diagnosis and treatment too, about eight years ago. I'm thankful for every day.

Sweet photo!
