Oh, please

Here it is only Monday, and I am already frustrated.

Have you seen that commercial for Candy Land? (or it could be for Memory, I forget ...)

The point of the commercial is to take time to play with your child. They get out the game and the background fades and all you focus on is this lovely mother and her lovely son playing together. I love this sentiment.

HOWEVER, I have to take issue with a few things:

  • She is playing with one child. Yes, I realize many have one child, and then there are many who don't. Where is the version that has the lovely mother playing with her lovely 4 year old, while her lovely 2 year old keeps disrupting the pieces and having her set it all up again, and her lovely baby crawling onto and then sitting in the middle of the board? Hmmmm? Haven't seen that one, yet.

  • She MUST have a million hours in the day. Her house is SPOTLESS. She, herself, is SPOTLESS. Obviously, she has put these two things way ahead of spending quality time with her child. (I say, as my bitterness gets the best of me.)

  • Nobody is eating the pieces.
So, maybe this is reality for some people. It sure isn't mine. :)

Amen sista'. The only time we get to play is when Ella is sleeping or otherwise occupied by another adult. Don't worry we're good moms even if we don't keep our houses spotless or ourselves looking like runway models.

I don't know about you all but my house is spotless and I ALWAYS look like a runway model! WHATEVER! I have resolved myself to living in what I like to call "organized chaos".

Oh, yes, I agree! We got some games for our birthday that I thought would be a HUGE hit, but apparently the girls have very different "playing" styles. Both ended up in tears by the time we put the game away

I look at those commercials and I compare them to food on a menu - they don't look nearly as good in person. Funny post!

Lauren is currently obsessed with how many Hi-Ho-Cherrio cherries fit in her mouth. Answer: A lot! After I put a stop to that game, she then stuffed all the cherries into the tiny air intake opening in our air mattress... This is all after I banned her from the Hungry Hippo marbles. Maybe those age appropriate warnings are on the boxes for a reason...

Hey girl! Sorry I haven't left a comment in awhile. As always, your blogs make me smile and laugh. I loved the one about you and Jeff. Aren't you so thankful that God blessed you so? I remember when you and Ashleigh lived together and neither one of you were married yet. I can't remember if you and Jeff were together then, but I think you were. Anyway, that seems eons ago.

I don't know about everyone else, but I absolutely detest "Candy Land." I would much rather play "Memory" with Will, although he still doesn't grasp the concept of only turning over 2 cards at a time!

There are many things that must wait until Isaac is sleeping. . . .I feel your pain!

So True!! It is always a nice idea, but that is where it ends.

I am laughing out loud! I couldn't have written it better~ Today I was really disliking people who can keep a clean house. All I did today was clean and my house still has clutter, clutter that has been put up at LEAST twice already today! Seriously, how do those people do it!

I'm not sure it gets easier as the girls get older, because eventually one of them learns to cheat.

I don't remember playing games with my parents until both of the kids were old enough to play, too (at least with a parent on their "team"). I do, however, remember playing Memory by myself. Is that sad, or was that actually an option for that game?

oh yeah! I am right there with ya! Jude just messes up the board and Ella does cheat already at 5.

Matt and I tried to play Candyland together one time. I got mad at him and flipped the board across the table. Then I lost some of the pieces that landed in a big basket full of dirty laundry.

I guess childless women cant even live up to that ideal. :)

Hilarious, Danna.

We can only play games at naptime or Parkerzilla comes and crashes the game board!! Amen, Danna!!
