Body Issues

So, this morning we were getting ready for church in our usual calm manner. (cough)

As in most households, mommy still does the majority of the work when getting the girls ready.

(Jeff has learned a lot during the last few years, though. He will say things like, " where's your bow?" and "no, let's not wear the black sparkly tights with our sundress". God bless him.)

Oh, and does anyone else get dressed and put their shoes on before anything else? It's a habit for me. See, if we were in a hurry warm feet are more important than dry hair and a made up face.

I'm speaking from experience on that one.

Like my feet are really the first thing people notice. *sigh*

Now where was I?

Ah, here's what I am getting to in this ramble ... when I finally start to get ready (in the remaining five minutes before we leave), instead of multi-tasking and beautifying I start homing in on the flaws. Today's winner? My top lip is smaller than my bottom lip. I feel like they are out of proportion. Seriously.

Last week these gems popped into my head at various times: my eyes are tiny... my forehead is huge... my hair isn't straight enough ... my fingers are too bony ...and so on and so forth.

Honestly! Why do we do this?!?! We are created in God's image. And think about it, we all think our children are so adorable. Just imagine how cute God thinks we all are! He looks at us and sees beauty, we look at ourselves and see double chins.

And then today, I was all set to blog about my visit with an old friend last week. And I can't bring myself to post a picture of us. Sorry, Bill! They just don't look good.

Here is a lovely picture of our children, though! (for those HU grads, these are Aaron Brister's daughters. For all the rest, they belong to Billie Jean)

Now, 90% of the time I don't give it much thought, so don't go thinking I am all depressed or something. I just don't look in mirrors unless I have to get ready. And I don't have my picture taken, either.

Even the most beautiful people find flaws w/ themselves. Today, mine(did you catch that) was my tummy. Not as tight as it used to be. And yes, a lady did comment about me having another baby too soon.."I'm not PREGGO..ms. elderly!"

Ok, both you and Heather are out of your beautiful minds. Danna, you are beautiful- inside and out. I know so many people, me included, that want to be like you! You are such a blessing to me and it makes me sad that you feel so horrible about your appearance!

Wait! I don't feel horrible about my appearance! I just mean that if I spend too much time looking at myself, I start to nit-pick. That's all. :)

I don't look at mirrors anymore. I just look at my kids and think... geesh.. I must be GAHJUS because they are mine! Oh, and you are GAHJUS too!

Seriously Danna..you are super cute! I do the same thing though..I am really picky about posting pics of myself...and yes, I avoid mirrors unless I have to get ready.:) But seriously, YOU are super cute!

Well, all I know is that flaws (like beauty), is in the eye of the beholder. Unfortunately, because we're getting older, our eyes aren't as good as they used to be. So, in my opinion all us hot mamas are too hot to trot and sometimes just can't see it because of our aging eyes (and our nuerotic state-of-being).

You with your "don't take photos of me!" issue. When you start to question the size of your lips or your many noticeable freckles (that's for me!), take care in knowing you will ALWAYS look better than Courtney Love. I know. I've seen her. Your just silly, gorgeous. Smile with those lips and embrace the quirky!

Danna you are beautiful, and you not knowing you are beautiful makes you even more beautiful!! Lets see how many times I can write beautiful...I am right there with ya on the photo thang babe. Don't like it..don't do it very often.

Danna! You are such a beautiful girl and so are your daughters! Women are so hard on themselves. That is the challenge we have to make sure our daughters know how beautiful they are. That is going to be a hard one. The other day Katelyn was talking about how her belly is fat. She even compared it to mine and said hers was fat and mine wasn't. Okay, that is a serious problem!

I bet you eat dessert first too...and don't sweat it, everyone in the world who looks in the mirror a little too hard is, "What the...?!" That's why we have no mirrors in our home.

Well, it's refreshing to know that I am not the only mom who gets the last 5 or 10 minutes to get ready before walking out the door for church.
